By embracing a new employment approach based on collaboration and flexibility, companies can resolve their hiring challenges. On August 22, Scott Whiting will explain how one 3PL did just that by recruiting from “at-risk” labor pools, such as ex-offenders and persons with transportation or childcare challenges. This session will detail the business value of recruiting from this workforce, including statistics on how employer flexibility earns tremendous loyalty—with little to no absenteeism—among these employees. Other topics include examples of corporate policies, how to form partnerships with community-based organizations, and ways to gain access to local programs that help with training costs.

Presented by: Scott Whiting

Scott Whiting has more than 40 years of experience in warehousing. Whether running the family 3PL business in Detroit, operating emergency response DCs in the wake of hurricanes in Mississippi and earthquakes in Haiti, or growing a cold storage business in Indianapolis, Scott has a breadth and wealth of warehousing knowledge and insight to share. A graduate of Hillsdale College, Scott has been a member of WERC since its inception, has served on the Board of the International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA), and has held a membership in CSCMP from back when it was NCPDM. He currently serves on the Board of the Edna Martin Christian Center, a community-based organization that provides education, support services, and hope for those in the urban core of Indianapolis. Scott has four daughters and three grandsons; he and his wife of 45 years live in Indianapolis.
